The project involves four “Founders Period” (Gründerzeit) buildings that have undergone a comprehensive renovation. The buildings were thermally renovated and were extended with a lightweight loft addition. One of the buildings was also given three additional storeys in solid wood construction. The renovation and extension reduced the heating requirements of the buildings from more than 130 kWh/(m² gross floor areaa) to an average of 25 kWh/(m² gross floor areaa).
We supported this project by delivering comprehensive technical planning services in building physics, including thermal insulation, moisture protection, sound insulation, and component-specific fire protection.
Beyond the significant reduction in energy demand, the key challenge of this project was developing a solution for the roof extensions and the three-story solid timber addition atop the existing Founders Period buildings.
